National Service in Maine

The Maine Commission for Community Service (MCCS) is the State of Maine partner of the Corporation for National Service (CNCS), the federal agency through which Senior Corps, AmeriCorps, Learn & Serve, and Volunteer Generation funds flow.

More than 6,500 people are helping to meet local needs, strengthen communities, and increase civic engagement through 36 Maine national service projects that place National Service participants in more than 600 Maine nonprofits and schools across the state.

In 2012, CNCS has committed more than  $6,100,000 to support Maine communities through the National Service programs.

Since 1994, the Maine Commission for Community Service has distributed AmeriCorps*State funds through competitive grants to public and nonprofit community organizations. Beginning in July 2010, MCCS became responsible for fostering K-12 school-based service-learning and making grants with Learn & Serve monies.
